IPDP FAQ's

1. What happens if I don't accomplish my goal?

1. What happens if I don't accomplish my goal?
Don't worry! The IPDP is not used to assess teacher performance. It is okay if you do not achieve your goal. Even so, that does not make the IPDP meaningless. You must complete the process as part of your annual evaluation. The object of the IPDP is for the teacher to learn something about their practice and what particular teaching strategies work or don't work for you.

2. Does the IPDP have to be based on FCAT data?
No. While many school improvement goals are based on FCAT scores, there are a variety of data sources for an IPDP. Teachers might use FCAT data in determining the Focus, but Student Baseline Data could come from any valid or reliable source?

3. What sources are considered valid and reliable?
FCAT scores, DIBELS, DRP, DAR, DRA, SRI, and other standardized tests. Teacher or school determined assessments could also be used (teacher-made tests, student work samples, discipline data, student grades, textbook tests, etc.)

4. How do I write an IPDP if I'm instructional personnel not assigned to a classroom?
Like all teachers undergoing the IPDP process, you must first look at the School Improvement Plan and determine which goal you are going to support. Then, you must look at school-wide data regarding that goal and determine how you might be able to help a target group of students who need improvement. If you're a dean, you might focus on discipline issues. If you are a guidance counselor you can focus on attendance goals. Resource teachers might study how their staff development efforts affect student achievement.

5. What kind of documentation do I need to support my IPDP?
While the IPDP form is considered official documentation of the process, your administrator may ask you to provide additional documentation to support the information on the form. In some schools, the CRT or Learning Specialist facilitates the production of a professional development portfolio that supports the IPDP. The portfolio might include the teacher's individual classroom data, evidence of professional development participation, research or literature, implemented strategies, and student achievement results. Such information is also valuable in the event your school is part of a Professional Development Protocol Review.

6. Can teachers collaborate on their IPDP's?
Collaboration is a key element in effective professional development. However, all teachers are required to use individual classroom data. Two or more teachers may be working on the same goal or trying the same strategies, but they must make the determination to do so based on the data that is unique to the students in their class.

7. Are there any guidelines or requirements for the expected student outcomes?
Some teachers like to predict student outcomes that parallel the expectations of the School Improvement Plan goal they are focusing on. However, your expectations should be based on what you think your targeted student group can accomplish or how you think they will respond to the new strategies you will implement. Some teachers prefer to make safe predictions, others like to set the bar high. The choice is yours.
